| Personal History | Rel was born to an Andorian mother and an Aenar father upon the northern continent of Andoria, along with his sister, a year later. His father took time away from his Starfleet Career, moving to the reserves to raise his children for a few years. During this time, Rel and his sister were both raised on Andoria and Earth, traveling between the planets to spend time with both parents when they could, as well as learning about other temperatures, cultures, and people. By the time Rel was a teenager, he was able to break down a personal shuttle and rebuild it most of the time without any issues. When he was 17, his family was aboard the USS Bonestell NCC-31600 in transit from Andoria to Risa for a vacation before diverting to the Battle of Wolf 359. His mother and father stayed aboard but Rel and his sister departed via Shuttlecraft with the other civilians aboard. Shortly after learning of the Battle of Wolf 359 and the loss of both his parents, Rel and his sister suffered the reality of being orphaned. Unwilling to separate, Rel delayed his application to Starfleet Academy for a year so his sister could join him as well, although they went their separate ways in career paths. Having delayed his application to Starfleet Academy, he did not earn a commission. Having to instead take the path of Engineering Crewmate, while his sister earned a commission as an Ensign in security. Once he graduated, he was assigned the USS Hathaway NCC-2593 as his training ship, an old Constellation-class ship where he learned to “make do” with what he had available to him. She wasn’t as pretty as some of the newer and bigger ships coming out of Utopia Planitia, but she needed just as much TLC to keep her working, even with being retrofitted. During the Dominion War, he was transferred to the USS Yeager NCC-61947 to patrol the sector of space around Starbase 621. Having been in multiple engagements with Jem Hadar and Cardassian ships. With casualties mounting and replacement officers spreading out across the fleet, Rel was given a battlefield commission to the rank of Ensign. As well as serving as Acting Chief Engineer. Shortly before the end of the war, he was transferred to the USS Rabin NCC-63293, where he served as Assistant Chief Engineer until requesting another transfer for an opening as Chief Engineer. |
