OCC: Ben and Kate's Quarters.

Ben sat at the desk, he was idlily scratching Kodie's ears but his mind was elsewhere. He missed Kate.
IC:
"Personal Log. Lieutenant Ben Dalton. I miss Kate. I miss her terribly. I miss her exuberance, her sense of humor, her goodness. her quirkiness. I can say for a fact that absence does not make the heart grown fonder. It makes me miss her even more. Even Kodie misses her scratching his ears and stomach."
He paused and sighed before resuming his recording. "I know she is with the captain and others on a routine mission and will be back onboard in a few days which right now feels like an eternity. I don't think even we were married for twenty five years I would ever get over missing her. I think that is the true measure of love. That you never get tired of the person you are with. Every day brings something else and you remember why you love them."
He smiled, "Maybe I can bake her a "Welcome Hone" cake and a special dinner. We can have a quiet little party here. Kate me and Kodie." At the mention of his name Kodie looked up as to say, 'Right you are. Party!'
Ben grinned at the husky. "I know, I'm counting the hours until Kate is back with us but right now we have dinner plans and a cake to bake."
"End log."
