Mission: Here There Be Dragons
Location: USS Washington

Deanna materialized in the transporter room and saw Jon waiting for her. "Commander, funny seeing you here. Come to see if I have any scorch marks?" she said with a grin.

"Oh Commander, aren't we formal? And yes." He leaned forward, "do you?"

"Not so much as a spark or an ember while I was down there. I think the captain managed to get them to trust us" Deanna replied. "We can deploy a particle fountain as soon as Aidan can prepare it to begin mining tritanium, and we can notify the mining transports to start making their way here. I'll need a couple days to get the holo-emitters ready to input into the dilithium mine."

"Excellent work. You even got Tiamat to go along? I am impressed." Jon commented.

"Crosis and Bahamut didn't give him a choice" she replied with a grin. "We should get up to the bridge, inform the captain." She took a step towards the door and stopped. "I wasn't able to get more information about it, but it does seem that something has happened in the past between the Ojnas that has made them persona non grata."

"There is definitely bad blood between them. I'll see if I can get Imik to open some more and explain the animosity between the Onjas and the dragons." Jon replied.

They began walking again. "It doesn't seem that it was anything that happened directly here. It has to do with this cousin race that the Ojnas encountered. I often think Imik enjoys being enigmatic about her people and their history."

"She does. She likes the air of mystery and giving out bits and pieces of information maintains that mystery." Jon answered.

They entered the turbolift and made their way up to the bridge while continuing to talk. "I can appreciate wishing to maintain the air of mystery, but I think it breeds trust issues with the captain. Sachzny had mystery as well, but she was willing to be open and develop trust and relationships while here."

"Deanna, Imik isn't Sachzny. She is a completely different person. A person, an officer who is still finding her way. She finds herself with a foot in both the Onjas Republic and the Federation. It is hard for her. I don't think she means to cause trust issues with the captain. She respects the captain. I think she is just strong willed and has trouble bending." Jon observed.

"I don't disagree that she is a different person who is young nd strong willed, but she forgets that her people have a Republic because of the actions of the captain and of you. Having a foot in two worlds is difficult enough without making things harder on yourself with unnecessary inflexibility. The captain can be rigid, but he is the captain and that is his prerogative. None of us get to be that way; we haven't earned that. The captain allows us to get away with far more than many in his position would. He put up with Inara and her insubordinate self for a long time, he seems to get some sort of joy out of Kate's youthful missteps, and others including myself have said and done things that others would have at the least reprimanded us for" Deanna responded thoughtfully. They reached the outside of the captain's ready room and she pressed the door chime.

"All true Deanna, though I don't believe I was taking issue with the captain and how he runs the ship or what he puts up with. I was attempting to explain Imik and why she is as she is. I apologize to you if I offended you." Jon answered.

"No offense Jon. I'm just a bit more protective of the captain and you are a bit more protective of Imik. We both have our reasons for that" Deanna replied with a smile as the door opened. The two officers entered and offered their reports.
