Mission:
Creatures of the Night
Location: Washington Bridge
Timeline: After Derelict Part 2
The away team returned to the Washington and Jon ordered everyone to their stations. he also had L'Rissa back the Washington a safe distance away for what was going to come next.
"Aye sir" L'Rissa purred.
"Imik, target that ship and reduce it to space dust." Jon instructed and then added, "Anyone have any objections?"
Callie, who was now feeling more herself again, shook her head. “No objections.”
"Ship now 100,000 kilometers from derelict vessel" L'Rissa informed.
Standing at her Security station, Imik looked at the derelict on the viewer then down to her instruments. The ship registered as a faint blip, "A single quantum torpedo should meet your requirements Commander, I am inputting the coordinates and yield now." A few moments passed and then, "Ready to fire Commander, at your command." Imik looked straight at Jon as she reported ready, "I also have no objections, as I can attest that there is something unnatural on that vessel."
Viviana had accompanied the others to the bridge. "No objections sir" she said, her voice shaky. She turned to her left, hearing her name called but seeing no one there. She looked to Callie, "Did you hear that?" she questioned.
Callie looked at Viviana a cold chill running down her spine. “I think so..”
James picked up on what Viviana had asked Callie. The same thing happened to the latter aboard the derelict ship. "Sir I have no objections, but we need to act fast. I think the ship may still be affecting us."
Jon turned in the center seat. Saw Viviana and she looked glassy eyed. "Now Imik, fire now." He ordered.
“Don’t listen Viviana, don’t let it try to lure you.” Callie added as she hoped destroying the ship would work.
On hearing the command, Imik pressed the firing button. Nothing! Imik checked and attempted to fire again, still nothing. "Complete firing system failure Commander, other systems are also failing. I can find no logical reason for the failures, it is as if we are under some kind of systems attack."
“Either that or mental control” Callie added. “Whatever was enticing me over there was powerful. If its influence has stretched over here, it could be influencing our crew.”
"Could we be seeing a false image? What I mean one where the ship is destroyed but we're seeing it isn't and how can we confirm it?" Jon asked.
"Not a false image Commander" Ibarra noted from Ops. "The issue is coming from the command processors. The computer core is being compromised. No signal detected, which means we have someone in the computer core or in Engineering hijacking systems. Lt O'Connor and the Chief are both still off ship. I believe Ens Lawrence is running things down there currently."
'James take a security down to Engineering and find out what is going on and stop. We are not going to have our ship compromised. People, lock out your systems to prevent any hacking, do it now."
"Locking down systems. Attempting to regain computer control, shifting to secondary processors" Ibarra noted.
"Aye sir" Phoenix said while he swiftly moved into the turbolift. He paged a squad of security officers to rendezvous with him close to engineering.
“Lieutenant…” Callie called after Phoenix. “Go easy on them, they may just be under the influence of a controlling force.”
"Switching to secondary back ups, re-routing primary systems and attempting to realign weapons system to separate it from the main circuit to prevent interference." Imik informed Jon of her attempt to get the weapons back on line, "Realignment successful, but weapons remain off line." She now had a thought, "We could try and launch a fighter, and hopefully it would destroy the other vessel. But we may encounter further interference, including sabotage."
A chill ran down Callie’s spine as the voice from before started calling again. “Hurry Jon! It’s here, it’s calling…”
"Get a fighter prepped. We'll use it if we can't get the weapons back online." He glanced at Callie. "Hold on Callie. Hold on!"
Imik turned to Jon, "My Ojnas fighter is onboard, it might be a safer choice as it is not yet connected to the Washington's systems. I am sure we will succeed one way or another, permission to leave the bridge and my station Commander."
Ibarra continued to work. She had no idea where the idea of fighters came from. The ship didn't carry any. Maybe they were referring to the runabouts. It didn't matter. Be it from her own work, or with the assistance of whatever Phoenix and his people were doing, she had managed to reroute controls to secondary processors and weapons were online. "No need for such work Commander. Weapons are green, awaiting orders."
"Excellent! Fire phasers, Destroy that ship." Jon ordered.
"No!" Viviana screamed as she rushed towards Ibarra.
Ibarra activated the phaser arrays and a spray of phaser fire volleyed forth from the ship, and moments later the derelict exploded, completely obliterated.
Viviana stopped, grasping her head as if suddenly dealing with being in a fugue. 'Dios mio, my head."
Callie felt the change too. “It’s worked, I think it’s gone.”
James had heard Callie call out after him, but the turbolift doors had closed before he could respond. He knew to go easy on anyone that may be possessed. Moments later, he arrived outside of main engineering with his usual kit. His team arrived a minute later.
Viviana looked to Jon, "Commander, can we get out of here. Swing by the planet, grab the captain, and leave this system. I've had enough of ghost houses and supernatural goings on."
"L'Rissa." Jon called out to the CONN officer "Plot us a course back to the planet. So we can pick up the captain and the others. As even now the derelict ship was reduced to atoms.
