It's Daffy's Fault!

Okay so I literally cannot catch a break. I was just sitting at my desk minding my own business going through sensor reports when this transmission comes through and the computer just accepts it because apparently this guy Karnek knows how to override the block I set up for unwanted calls. And of course Karnek is a Romulan Intelligence officer. And of course he is the brother of Selmek, the Romulan I killed a few weeks ago in self defense. So now I have an actual blood feud on my hands. This is on top of the whole Section 31 situation, where they were all over me about the death of that officer who was temporarily in my command chain like a year ago. I just barely got through that whole mess and now here is Karnek, who I am pretty sure does not care even a little bit that I only killed his brother because his brother was going to kill me first. You know that Loony Tunes cartoon where Daffy Duck is trying to stop a dam from leaking and he plugs one hole with his fingers and then another hole opens up so he plugs that one with his toes and then another one just opens up right in his face? That is my life right now.
I just sent the report off to the Captain. We are currently on a very specialized mission that can’t even be put into personal logs right now and he’s going to be (sarcasm here) SO THRILLED to find out that I got rid of one intelligence situation only to inherit antoher. At least this one isn’t involved within the ranks of Starfleet. But a lot is happening right now. I just watched a family of twelve depart in a shuttlecraft while the ship is preparing for a battle. It’s good to know that the families are not going to be here when the crap hits the fan. AJ had to run all over one of the decks saving everyone last time anything like this happened so at least he won’t have to be a track star this time.
Just sent the report off to the Captain. I'm sure he's going to be absolutely thrilled (that's sarcasm, for the record) to hear that I managed to close one intelligence situation and somehow walk straight into another one. At least this new one doesn't go anywhere near Starfleet itself, so there's that.
There is so much happening on this ship right now. I stood at the viewport and watched a shuttlecraft carry a family of twelve away from the ship, knowing that in the next forty-eight hours this whole place is most likely going to be in the middle of a firefight. I'm really glad they're going to be somewhere safe when it all breaks loose. Last time something like this went down, AJ was sprinting up and down the whole deck trying to get everyone out. At least he gets a break from that this time.
Spoke with Na'Riss today. She's been pushing to have fuse boxes installed on all the power feeds for every console on the ship, which, when she explained why, turned out to be the funniest and most damning piece of engineering history I have ever heard. Apparently in the 22nd and 23rd centuries, the big killer was hull breaches. Nobody was getting blown up by their own console. Then we solved the hull breach problem and, in our excitement, forgot to ask why consoles were suddenly exploding in everyone's faces. Na'Riss's position is that a fuse, a technology older than warp drive, older than indoor plumbing, older than the wheel, would solve this entirely. I find it hard to argue. Anyway, it was about as much girl-gossip as you are ever going to get out of a Vulcan, and I treasured every word of it.
It all goes back to plugging one hole, and another hole opens up!
