Danger Zone

520 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Sins of the Empire
Location: USS Washington

Shran walked onto the bridge and made his way to his command position. "Time to get underway. Helm, course 80.22, warp 5." He looked to Jon, "Everything is prepared?"

"Yes sir." Jon answered crisply from his XO station. "Shuttles have departed with the civilians and a security detachment."

"Good. Now we go into a danger zone" Shran replied confidently. "Red alert. All hands to battle stations. Sensors to full. Deanna, notify the Ch'Tang we are getting underway. Have them assume its position under cloak."

"Aye sir" Deanna replied simply, firming up as they moved into battle conditions.

"Once more into the breach." Jon stated to no one in particular.

Shran nodded in agreement. "Imik, keep a lookout. We are entering dangerous space. Keep an eye out for anything that would indicate cloaked vessels, particularly on the Romulan side."

"By your command Sinkahue, sensors are showing clear at this time and the Romulan sector appears quiet." Her mind was already well ahead of the ships present position, where and when would the enemy strike and in what numbers? Imik glanced around the bridge, people she knew could be harmed and if she could stop that happening then that's what she would do.

Hearing Imik report that the area was quiet but Jon on alert as it was just opposite of what he expected and raised the question that they were flying into a trap.

"There is a message coming in from the Morg'ath colony. It appears to be under attack by Toral" Deanna noted.

Shran looked to Jon, "Safe bet it is a trap, but it is our opportunity to catch Toral."

"Oh, I'd lay odds it is a trap sir and a rather obvious one on the surface of it which leads to the question, what are they really hoping for?"

"Probably hoping to pull in, what is the human expression, a big fish, such as Martok himself or one of his close advisors. Suppose Toral never learned that when you wade into the deep waters, sometimes you encounter a shark" Shran replied with a wry grin. "Security is ready to rebuff any party crashers I assume, and we have that special surprise ready to send down to Toral as well, yes?"

"When you play tag with the donkey expect to get kicked and I hope we kick Toral and his 'friends' teeth in and yes the special surprise is ready and waiting. I'll let Imik answer on security." Jon answered crisply.

On hearing her name Imik looked towards Jon and Shran, "Security has been placed around our vessel in the locations where uninvited guests are most likely to attempt boarding, they will be either apprehended or stunned without question. Any Romulan will be in no fit state to do anything, my word as an Ojnas, Sinkahue."

Shran nodded. "It isn't Romulans boarding us that concerns me so much as Toral's people. Klingons can be deadly dangerous when in a bloodlust. But I trust that everything is in order to repel such attacks." Shran looked forward once more and a seriousness came upon him, "Let's spring the trap. Helm, take us in."
